Susan Boyle’s Encore: A “Memory” For Us All

susan-boyle-semifinalMay 24, 2009 Speaking of WorldShapers, as I was researching the ‘Twitter updates’ on  Narada Michael Walden’s mega-Memorial Day music fest for Christopher Rodriguez, I ran across Sheryl Brueker’s interview with him, and popped over to her ‘Twitter” feed to hear the buzz about the star-studded musicians performing…

Lo and behold, as I was doing so, I stumbled upon Sheryl’s feed presenting the ultimate dichotomy…Breaking news of the North Korean nuclear test juxtaposed with WorldShaper Susan Boyle just finishing her semi-finalist performance of “Memory” on Britain’s Got Talent, (video & links after the jump).

This is how we ingest news now…instantly, visually, in eye-popping exclamation, whether it’s a text with a link, or via Blackberry/Viigo plopped into the media stream. (Viigo is the mobile platform for smartphones getting starpower-hit parade attention on the techie circuit akin to the Susan Boyle applause)

Sheesh. Media just keeps getting more refined, amazing, and instantaneous. A ‘totally wired’ culture indeed!

I’m going to stay out of the ‘straight news’ and focus on Susan Boyle’s impact on kids. (truth be told, the breaking news just happened as I was about to hit ‘post’ and I don’t want to reshift the spotlight…as this too is a ‘media moment’ of how we can adapt and alter our attention in a nanosecond and revise on the fly rather than ‘wait’ for the print edition in the days of yore…so back to Susan:)

I just can’t imagine the jittery pressure taking the stage under such high stakes  ‘world is watching’ scrutiny, but the lass from West Lothian, Scotland graciously took it in stride, enjoying the moment, and handling comments elegantly with her refreshingly humble, ‘grateful to be here’ charm.

That is one charismatic lady that deserves wild applause for WorldShaping with her music and charisma, elevating the spirits of us all by being herself and sharing a slice of that beauty with the masses.

Come to think of it, same goes for music man Narada Michael Walden…finding a need and filling it with high notes of hope and love embodied.

Brava, music-meisters! Encore!

Susan Boyle’s Semi-Final Performance of Memory

Posted by the Britain’sSoTalented Channel on YouTube (NOT by Britain’s Got Talent) along with a plethora of fan sites and links (shown below)

I counted almost 18,000 fans on the initial fansite I’d favored right after her original performance which I wrote about in my first post about Susan Boyle’s Les Miserables rendition.

She  ‘rocked the world’ as a role model for youth!

Since then, she’s been covered everywhere from the Wall Street Journal to CNN and Oprah, as the world waits with bated breath hoping she’ll continue to triumph over the multiple mass media spins without faltering…

You can do it Susan, just keep being yourself…youth need a clear message that’s what it’s all about.

In fact, that’s what people of ALL ages want…

Just take a look at this number of fan sites, and see how the backlash has begun against faux celebs in favor of REAL people and AUTHENTICITY.

WorldShaping indeed.

  3. yes, I did too…Just bought her CD in fact…(unheard) so will see how she does! Fingers crossed…

  4. Susan Boyle has a great voice, no doubt about that. She was my first choice in American Idol and sadly she did not make it.

  5. I bought her new CD for my mom for Xmas and ended up burning it onto my laptop for myself! 🙂 Yep, lovely…packs such a punch. I listen to it often now…she’s an icon for hope and courage in terms of challenging the ‘norm’ of pop culture…and I’d like to even think a ‘mindshift’ among naysayers who say what ‘sells’ is this vapid thunkathunka bump & grind stuff.

2010 wish? For youth to embrace her music as a message and find their own compass, own music, own style rather than take the path of least resistance into lemming mode of ‘coolhunting’ for the masses.

  6. Susan Boyle has a great voice, if she only look good then she could have been a fast rising star. the music industry is also like showbiz, somehow you need to look good if you want to become famous fast.

  7. I think you missed the point of the post…you do NOT have to morph to fit ‘the beauty myth’—Susan Boyle is an inspiration to us all…and she sure did ‘become famous fast’ on her own merits, not the vapid societal context of appearance-based clone cues (tho for the record, I think she LOOKS GREAT just as she is, too!)

  8. Hey I found your website by chance on yahoo while searching for something completely unrelated but I am very happy that I did, You have just earned yourself another subscriber. 🙂

  9. Susan Boyle may not be a very good looking woman but she has an angelic voice. `
