Some states close their voter registration in less than 72 hours, as early as October 4th. (deadlines for each state here) Other states have ‘postmark by’ dates. Some let you register later if you show up in person.

Some millennials are voting for the first time, and in our instantaneous internet culture, some youth voters may just ‘ASSUME’ everything can happen online ‘before Nov. 4’ instead of registering NOW.
News flash. This is the government, folks. It doesn’t work with the speed of social media, the pervasiveness of Twittervision, or even YouTube virals for that matter. Wisely, this slew of celebs has given voter reg a dose of pop culture power to put some ‘oompf’ into the necessity of registering NOW. It’s an all-star line-up, giving you the ‘no excuses’ hairy eyeball. (video after the jump)
Youth have been letting out a rebel yell for election activism…sharing convictions on social media sites like MyPoliticalWorld.com and MyDebates.org.
But this YouTube media is marketing to a different, nonpartisan youth audience…NOT necessarily the eager interns on Capitol Hill or the governmental law majors toasting each other at Bullfeathers, they’re out for en masse registration using viral video to chart climb in web celeb appeal.
Hopefully this ‘forward to a friend’ viral starpower will get the word out that the time to register is NOW…not the last minute…or sauntering in to a voter booth on Nov. 4th!
The nonpartisan PSA of familiar faces is produced by DiCaprio’s Appian Way, with the election effort headed up by will i. am, Tobey Maguire, and Forest Whitaker.
The PSAs were created to “engage and inspire young people to register and vote and participate in the upcoming election,” giving the ‘whys’ of registering and voting, while Google Maps provides the ‘hows and wheres’ to follow up seamlessly with the important call to action:
